# Arsenal surprise favourites to land Inter’s Vanheusden – but would he be a risky signing?

Arsenal have emerged as surprise favourites to land Inter Milan defender Zinho Vanheusden this summer – but is the teenager what the Gunners need?

According to Italian outlet [Tuttosport, cited by Sports Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/signs-lead-arsenal-player-thought-close-transfer-despite-lack-rumours/), the Emirates Stadium has emerged as a possible destination for the defender, with the report claiming that a deal is ‘close’.

Vanheusden is valued at £18m by Inter and has been a target for fellow Premier League sides Southampton and Wolves, with Belgian side Standard Liege also keen on the centre-back.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen on making multiples signings this summer, with additions at the back a priority for the Spaniard.

The Gunners are thought to be close to signing Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, another young and inexperienced defender.

If Emery does secure the services of Saliba, a deal for Vanheusden could well be a risk.

Even though Arsenal pride themselves on bringing through young exciting prospects, the Gunners may well need to sign some proven quality in order to build on Emery’s first full season and cut out the mistakes at the back.

The two teenagers will more than likely turn out to be future stars, however, bringing both players to the Premier League this summer could well be a major risk by the Gunners.
