Arsenal preparing ‘mammoth’ Tierney move – but is the Scot what Emery needs?

Arsenal are thought to be preparing a ‘mammoth’ bid for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney – but would the Scot be the answer to Unai Emery’s defensive problems?

According to Football Insider, the Scottish giants are bracing themselves for a large offer from the Gunners, with Emery keen on adding to his full-back options ahead of the new season.

The Metro report that Arsenal have a £40m transfer budget this summer, so a move for Tierney could eat up the majority of Emery’s funds.

The Spaniard is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements this summer and could target a new left-back with Nacho Monreal approaching the end of his career.

Tierney is currently contracted at Celtic Park until 2023 and has been one of the Hoops’ star performers since making his debut in 2015, winning eight major honours in the process.

The 22-year-old would certainly be an excellent addition to Emery’s side and would more than likely become first-choice over Sead Kolasinac if he made the move to the Emirates.

The Scot would make the transition from the Scottish top flight to the Premier League with ease and could also play in a wing-back role under Emery.

Tierney, who also his European experience, still has plenty of years to improve, which is a frightening prospect in regards to his current performance level.

A move for Tierney appears to be what the Gunners need this summer, even if it takes up a large percentage of Arsenal’s transfer funds.
