Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for Thomas Meunier – but is the Belgian what Unai Emery needs?

The Mirror report that the Gunners have begun discussions with PSG officials ahead of a possible move, with the French champions looking for £27m for the 27-year-old.

It is no secret that Emery will need more than a few new acquisitions ahead of the 2019-20 campaign if he is to improve on his first season in charge at the Emirates.

One of the areas Emery will be desperate to strengthen is at the back, so a move for Meunier could prove to be a smart signing.

The Belgian has plenty of experience across Europe and has all the qualities seemingly needed to succeed in England.

He is strong, athletic and intelligent, attributes which appear to be missing in the Gunners’ current back line.

Meunier, who mainly plies his trade at right-back, can also feature in a holding midfield role, something which would surely appeal to Emery.

The Spaniard has worked with Meunier at PSG and knows all about the talented defender, so a move for the Belgian could be a shrewd signing if the two sides can strike a deal over the coming weeks.

Would Meunier be a good signing for Arsenal?
