Arsenal have reportedly been quoted a figure worth €35 million by Sampdoria for their defender Joachim Andersen – should they spend big to recruit him this summer?

According to claims from Il Secolo XIX, as cited in a report from Calciomercato, the Serie A club are unwilling to let their promising defender leave on the cheap ahead of next season.

The Gunners are among a host of clubs who have been linked with a move for Andersen, with the indications from Italy stating that Napoli, AC Milan, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race.

Arsenal are desperately in need of a new central defender this summer, but would Andersen be the man to remedy their issues at the back?

The Dane had a fantastic season in Italy. He was imperious for Sampdoria in the heart of their defence and emerged as one of Serie A’s best-performing players in his position.

Andersen impressed with his long, raking passes from flank to flank and read the game superbly. He was dominant in aerial duels and made intelligent decisions when faced with one-on-one situations.

Despite being only 23-years-old, he marshalled his team’s defence with composure and confidence, attracting suitors from across Europe.

Arsenal require a central defender who can step in and make an instant impact, asserting their leadership and exuding an aura of calm. Andersen boasts the qualities to fit the bill, and the Gunners must not pass up the opportunity to sign him.

He had a superb campaign in Serie A and appears to be a top target for several clubs this summer. He is high in demand, and Arsenal must not miss out on a player like Andersen when he is available.

Should Arsenal sign Andersen?
