Tottenham join Arsenal in Joachim Andersen race – but would the defender improve Emery’s options?

Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham have reportedly joined the Gunners in the race for Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen – but would the 23-year-old be worth battling for?

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, cited by The Boot Room, Spurs are willing to pay £22million for the Danish defender, whereas Arsenal are hoping to land both Andersen and his Sampdoria teammate Dennis Praet ahead of the new campaign.

Andersen moved to Sampdoria in 2017 after impressing for Dutch side FC Twente, and enjoyed an impressive 2018/19 campaign in Serie A.

His performances have alerted Gunners boss Unai Emery, who needs to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season.

The youngster would add a much-needed physical presence to Arsenal’s back line, with Andersen posing great ability on the ball, something needed when playing under Emery.

If reports are to be believed and Tottenham are preparing to rival Arsenal for Andersen, the Gunners should do everything they can to lure the player to the Emirates Stadium.

Andersen is regarded as a future star, and following his impressive season with Sampdoria, appears to be ready for a move to London, so hopefully, for Gunners fans, he chooses to link up with Emery over Mauricio Pochettino.
