Arsenal make £12m move for Dennis – do they need another striker?

Arsenal have reportedly made a £12m offer for Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis, but do they need him?

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Arsenal and Lyon have both made £12m bids for Dennis as he looks set to leave the Belgian club this summer.

The report also claims that Fenerbahce are interested, but are not willing to match the offers from Lyon or Arsenal.

Dennis scored seven goals in the Belgian top division in 26 appearances this season, with a further six goals in cup competitions.

Do Arsenal need to sign him? You have to consider that Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League and are unlikely to be able to spend the kind of money you see Liverpool and Manchester City splashing out.

With that in mind, why would Arsenal need to sign another striker when they already have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette at the club?

Arsenal struggled defensively last season and conceded far too many goals in the Premier League – and in Europe. Unai Emery needs to add better defenders to his squad, rather than spending a decent chunk of his transfer budget on another forward.

The likes of Mustafi, Koscielny and Monreal all failed to impress at the back and could all be replaced this summer if Arsenal are shrewd in the transfer market and made good additions to their squad. Opting out of a £12m deal for Dennis could give them more money to spend on strengthening their back line.
