Arsenal are reportedly in the hunt to sign Valencia youngster Ferran Torres. The Spaniard boasts plenty of promise, but is he the man to fix the Gunners’ shortage of natural wide players?
According to claims from The Daily Mail, the Gunners are joined by Leicester City in their admiration of the 19-year-old.
Torres enjoyed an exceptional breakthrough season with Valencia. He helped them to the Europa League semi-finals, a fourth-place finish in La Liga and a shock Copa del Rey win, as his side defeated Barcelona in the final.
Arsenal are hardly bereft of attacking players. However, they do have few wingers to call upon, with Alex Iwobi their only natural player on the flanks.
This lack of depth out wide could lead Unai Emery to pursue added reinforcements in the final third this summer, with Torres the latest name to be touted. But would he provide the Gunners with the inspiration that they need?

The youngster is, without a doubt, a hugely exciting player. He is a phenomenal dribbler, has technical quality and is mature beyond his years.
Torres had a superb season for Valencia individually, displaying his creative skills and helping Marcelino’s men construct a ruthless attacking setup going forward.
He is arguably among Europe’s most exciting young wingers, and his growth this season is a testament to the work ethic and determination that he possesses.
However, a move to a club of Arsenal’s international prestige, and the pressure that would accompany it, may just be a step too far for the Spanish playmaker, who may be best served remaining in his homeland.

Torres has the makings of a world-class footballer; with the correct coaching and regular game time, there is no reason why he will not be massively successful in the years to come.
Arsenal, though, do not have time to waste. Signing the 19-year-old for the long-term, and as an impact substitute for the here and now, could prove to be astute business, but they face a summer which will demand that short-term fixes are recruited to propel them back to the Champions League.
Torres is one to keep an eye on, but perhaps a move to the Emirates Stadium would not be the smartest of moves right now…
