Arsenal have had a €10m offer for FC Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice rejected by the French club, according to reports in France but is he worth bidding a higher amount on?
Soccerlink report that the Gunners intend to make a higher offer for the 20-year-old in the coming days, but one must ask if that is a wise decision?
Unai Emery is set to be handed a relatively small transfer budget again this summer after his side failed to qualify for the Champions League, and whilst in modern terms offers around €10m are hardly ground-breaking, the Gunners badly need to strengthen in other areas and they might be better served to spend their budget elsewhere.

As highlighted by the 4-1 drubbing they took in the Europa League final, the Gunners are desperate for reinforcements in defence. Sokratis is arguably the best centre-back at the club these days and whilst he’s a decent player, he wouldn’t get into any of the teams who finished in the top four last season, which highlights the difference in quality between Arsenal’s backline and those of their rivals.
Meanwhile, the Gunners already have a few forwards who are more than promising, so why waste the money getting another?
Claude-Maurice looks a promising player and it’s easy to see why Arsenal might want him, but is it worth getting him this summer? One would argue that the timing isn’t the best.
