Arsenal in advanced talks with Thomas Meunier – but would he be a smart signing?

Arsenal look to be in pole position to land Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier this summer, but would he be a smart signing by Unai Emery?

According to reliable journalist Nicolo Schira, the Gunners have offered the versatile defender a five-year deal ahead of a possible move to the Emirates Stadium. 

Emery found out on Wednesday evening that the Gunners are in desperate need of numerous additions over the summer, especially in a defensive aspect, following their 4-1 Europa League final defeat to Chelsea.

Meunier would certainly provide Arsenal with plenty of versatility, with the Belgium international capable of playing on either side, as well as in midfield if needed. 

The 27-year-old also has plenty of years ahead of him, as well as a wealth of international and European experience, something which will benefit the Gunners’ options at the back in the long run.

Meunier has attracted plenty of interest across Europe, including from rivals Chelsea, so the defender would definitely be a real coup by Arsenal if they can get the deal over the line. 

Signing Meunier would be a solid start in terms of the Gunners’ much-needed shake-up this summer, however, Emery will need more additions if Arsenal are to improve on their performances last season.
