Seaman wants Cech dropped for Europa League final – but is he right?

Starting Petr Cech over Bernd Leno in the Europa League final is a needless risk, considering both a trophy and Champions League football are at stake.

Arsenal take on Chelsea in Baku on May 29th, with the Gunners knowing how priceless victory would be.

While the importance of silverware is obvious, returning to the Champions League would also be a huge positive, in terms of attracting top players to the club.

Unai Emery is set to choose between Cech and Leno in goal, with the former starting in all of the knockout games to date.

Someone who has no time for sentimentality, however, is Arsenal legend David Seaman.

While dropping Cech would mean leaving him out for the final game of his illustrious career, Seaman told talkSPORT that Leno is simply the stronger option:

Arsenal need to win this game to get into the Champions League. It’s a huge game and worth millions to the club.

So, for me, you play your strongest team and if that means Leno plays then that’s what I would do.

I know Arsene Wenger did it with me. Richard Wright played all the FA Cup games and then played me in the final.

Seaman is correct in his assessment, with Leno largely impressing this season and Cech’s best days behind him.

The Czech Republic great has done a job when he has played, in fairness, but you should play your best goalkeeper in a game of such magnitude.

What sort of reaction would there be if Cech made an error that cost Arsenal a trophy and a place back at Europe’s top table?
