Unai Emery has told Arsenal’s officials to complete a deal to sign Paris Saint-German midfielder Christopher Nkunu.
As reported by the Daily Star, the Gunners are now in talks with PSG about a move for the 21-year-old, but is Emery right to want the French U21 international?
With Aaron Ramsey heading to Juventus this summer, Arsenal will need a replacement so it does make sense for them to be in the market for a midfielder.
However, Nkunu is nowhere near as experienced as Ramsey and as such, Arsenal’s midfield options won’t contain as many established players.
Emery has proven that he’s willing to take a chance on young players, including Nkunu’s fellow Frenchman Matteo, but should he be looking at more established midfielders?
Sevilla’s Ever Banega is another’s reported target, but he’s 31-years-old. Some may think that he’s a bit too old but the top two teams in the country; Liverpool and Manchester City, both have midfielders of a similar age playing regularly, so Arsenal really should consider following suit rather than constantly thinking about investing in youth.
