With the transfer window just around the corner, Arsenal boss Unai Emery will already be making his summer plans regarding transfer incomings.
The Gunners currently sit fourth in the Premier League, two points above Manchester United and three clear of Chelsea in the race for Champions League football next season.
Whether or not Arsenal can guarantee Champions League football during the next campaign could also play a pivotal role in their summer business plans.
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey will leave the club for Italian giants Juventus in the summer, while Danny Welbeck, Nacho Monreal, Carl Jenkinson and Stephan Lichtsteiner could all leave on free transfers when their contracts expire.
However, who could Arsenal look to bring in on a free transfer this summer?
We’ve taken a look at five players whose contracts are set to expire in the summer and could well be of interest to Arsenal.
The winger has been in fine form this season as Porto challenge Benfica for the Liga Nos title. The 29-year-old has found the back of the net on 10 occasions and was linked with Everton and West Ham back in January. Porto are thought to readying a new contract offer for the forward, however, if Brahimi decides to reject the new deal, the Gunners could well attempt to secure Brahimi’s services for free in the summer.
Former Chelsea left-back Luis is another high-profile player who could be available on a free transfer this summer. Luis, who currently plies his trade with Atletico Madrid, is highly-rated across Europe and is reportedly being tracked by Barcelona. However, with Arsenal in need for a defender to nail down the left-back spot, Emery may well attempt to lure the Brazilian to the Emirates this summer.
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany could be another option for Emery. Despite the Belgian’s injury struggles over recent years, there is no doubting the 32-year-old’s talent when fully fit. The experienced defender could well earn a new one-year deal at City before the end of the season, however, if he doesn’t, there will surely be numerous takers in the summer.
Like club team-mate Yacine Brahimi, Porto midfielder Herrera could also leave the Portuguese giants on a free transfer this summer. The Mexico international has been linked with Tottenham, Real Madrid and Inter Milan in recent months, so Arsenal look set to face a tough battle if they are wanting to sign the no-nonsense midfielder this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Rabiot looks set to leave Ligue 1 in the summer, with numerous sides across Europe monitoring the Frenchman’s situation. The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are just a few of the clubs keen on Rabiot, so the Gunners would face stiff competition for the player if they are keen on signing him this summer.
