Arsenal produced a stellar display to overhaul a two-goal deficit from the first leg to go through to the last-eight of the Europa League with a 4-3 aggregate win over French side Rennes.
Starting the game 3-1 down, the Gunners made an ideal start, when Aaron Ramsey found some space on the byline to cut the ball across for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to open the scoring in the fourth minute.
10 minutes later, the aforementioned scorer set up a goal for Ainsley-Maitland Niles, after some sleepy defending from the visitors.
In a closely-fought second half, Arsenal got their third goal on the break. Henrikh Mkhitaryan found Sead Kolasinac on the left-hand side, with the latter then producing a good low cross for Aubameyang to score his second of the night, 18 minutes from time.
A great result for Arsenal in the end, bearing in mind how poor they were in the first leg.
Here’s how we rate their players:
Petr Cech - 7
Didn’t have to do too much as Rennes failed to create clear-cut openings.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles - 8
Scored the second Arsenal goal and looked good going forward. The youngster was strong defensively as well.
Shkodran Mustafi - 7
Apart from one or two hairy moments, Mustafi had a good game.
Laurent Koscielny - 7
Led the back-line well and ensured that his team keeps the all-important clean sheet.
Nacho Monreal - 7
Just like his centre-back partners, Monreal was solid at the back.
Sead Kolasinac - 8
He was a real threat going forward from the left wing-back position. Set up Aubameyang’s second goal to seal the tie for Arsenal. Booked later on.
Aaron Ramsey - 7
Another hard-working performance from Ramsey in that slightly deeper midfield role. He is certainly ending his Arsenal career on a high. Subbed off for Lucas Torreira.
Granit Xhaka - 7
The Swiss international controlled the midfield well that allowed the attacking players to cause trouble to the Rennes defence.
Mesut Ozil - 7
The former German international was a bit hit-and-miss but showed his quality from time-to-time to knit the attacks together. Subbed off for Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Alexandre Lacazette - 6
Didn’t have his best game and was slightly lucky to stay on the pitch after making a late tackle being on a yellow card. Subbed off for Alex Iwobi.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 9
Scored two goals, assisted one and terrorised the Rennes defence. He must be disappointed to miss two sitters later on, but the damage was done before.
(SUB) Henrikh Mkhitaryan - 7
Added fresh legs to the team and was involved in the build-up of the third Arsenal goal.
(SUB) Alex Iwobi - 5
Almost scored with his second touch. Helped the team run down the clock later on.
(SUB) Lucas Torreira - 5
Came on to close the game out in the latter stages.
