Arsenal rekindled their hopes of a top-four finish by beating London rivals Chelsea 2-0 at the Emirates stadium. Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny were enough for the hosts, who were good value for the win.
The Gunners began the game in a fiery manner, pressing the Chelsea build-up and forcing mistakes from the visitors. Unai Emery deployed a diamond midfield formation, something with which the Blues succumbed to at Tottenham a few weeks ago. Maurizio Sarri’s men had no answer to that today as well.
In the 14th minute, following a short corner, the ball found its way to Lacazette, who blasted the ball at the roof of the net from a tight angle. A superb finish that from the Frenchman!
Arsenal doubled their six minutes before the break when a skewed Sokratis shot turned into a cross for Koscielny, who shouldered the ball home.
Chelsea struggled to muster an attempt on target, which was a surprise. Marcos Alonso came the closest when his headers struck the post in the first half.
