Emery rules out permanent January arrivals

There won’t be any new arrivals at the Emirates this winter, or at least none on a permanent basis.

Manager Unai Emery hasn’t ruled out any loan signings but has claimed that his side won’t be foraying into the market for anything to make a fan lick their lips.

Having blown in excess of £70 million Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Lucas Torreira, and Matteo Guendouzi, the Spaniard has perhaps understandably been forced to keep his chequebook in the drawer for the time being.

That will possibly come as dismal news for Gunners fans longing for new arrivals in the defensive ranks, with fans calling for the likes of Shkodran Mustafi to be replaced by the club.

Quoted by Sky Sports, Emery said:

We cannot sign anyone permanently. Only loan players this January.

With the club’s questionable defence exposed multiple times over the Christmas period, Emery may yet choose to add some temporary defenders until the end of the season.
