Denis Suarez has informed Barcelona that he is desperate to join Arsenal this month, according to a report from the Mirror.
The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks following his failure to figure in Ernesto Valverde’s plans at Camp Nou.
It is believed that Gunners boss Unai Emery is determined to tie up a deal for his compatriot, who has also been courted by clubs in La Liga ahead of a potential January transfer.
The likes of West Ham have been linked with signing Suarez but it is reported by the Mirror that he only has his sights set on a mid-season move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are well stocked with central midfield options but are understood to be closing in on a deal to recruit the former Manchester City youngster.
The Mirror’s report states that the North London outfit will look to tie up a loan deal until the end of the season with a view to making the move permanent for £15 million in the summer transfer window.
