# Arsenal set to rival Real Madrid in Firpo pursuit

Arsenal have joined Real Madrid and Manchester City in the pursuit of Real Betis fullback Junior Firpo.

[According to Spanish outlet AS,](https://en.as.com/en/2018/12/27/football/1545895147_771175.html) Arsenal have shown a keen interest in the defender, whilst Real look set to trigger his buy-out clause.

Firpo has a €50m clause in his Real Betis contract and Real are ready to pay it in order to land him in January.

The report claims, however, that Arsenal and City will rival Real and look to bring him to the Premier League next month.

Firpo has been impressing at left-back in La Liga and in the Europa League for Betis this season, attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his defensive options and signing a new left-back is on his winter agenda.

Sead Kolasinac has been starting at left-back for the Gunners, but a host of injuries has left Emery’s squad thin heading into the season-half of the campaign.
