Arsenal manager Unai Emery is looking to sign Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero, according to reports.
Whilst the job that Emery is doing at Arsenal is earning plenty of plaudits, the Spaniard is still reportedly unhappy with his defensive options and as such, he’s already looking at possible recruits.
One of the players he has seemingly identified is Calero, who is also a target for the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.
Calero was somewhat of a late bloomer as he only made his professional debut a year ago, at the age of 22, but his performances for Valladolid have been impressive and as such, plenty of clubs are keeping tabs on him.
The Spaniard has a release clause of just £10m built into his contract with Valladolid but he insists that he wants to stay at his current club until the end of the season, who he’ll refuse a transfer even if someone meets that clause.
However, the 23-year-old will look to move in the summer and it appears that Arsenal are at the front of the queue to sign him.
