Matteo Guendouzi has discussed the role of Unai Emery in his summer transfer to Arsenal.

The young Frenchman joined the Gunners ahead of the 2018/19 season following an impressive spell in Ligue 2 with Lorient.

A host of clubs circled and attempted to secure the holding midfielder’s services. However, Arsenal won the race for his signature and Guendouzi explained his choice of destination on French television on Sunday.

Speaking to Canal Football Club, as cited by GFFN, the 19-year-old spoke about his manager’s influence behind his decision to arrive in North London.

Guendouzi said:

He was definitely a reason why I went. It was him who really wanted me to come to Arsenal. He is a very good manager, we have done very good results since the beginning of the season with him.

He doesn’t come across as feeling under particular pressure, he is just doing what he loves to do. He has transmitted that to us on the pitch and that is why we are getting the results we are getting.

Many expected the midfielder to slot into Arsenal’s youth ranks following his arrival as an inexperienced player.

However, Emery opted to put faith in Guendouzi in the opening stages of the season and has seen his decision pay dividends.

The youngster has been earning himself plenty of plaudits as he approaches the halfway mark of his first season in English football.
