Xhaka admits he wants to play for Basel
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted that he would like to return to his former club Basel in the future.
Xhaka has revealed that it is a dream of his to re-sign for Basel when he approaches the end of his career, to win silverware with his boyhood club.
The Swiss international was born in Basel and made 61 first-team appearances for the club before his move to the Bundesliga in 2012.
Speaking to Football London, Xhaka said this:
Definitely! My career started here (Basel) and there it is a goal, actually, my dream to return someday.
That certainly won’t be the case at 28, I’ll be honest. It’ll probably be more like Alex Frei, who’s the best example of how to do it.
He came back once he was in his thirties, but still performed and helped FCB win a few titles.
Xhaka has been with Arsenal since the summer of 2016 and made 107 appearances for the Gunners in that time.
He has been a regular under Unai Emery so far this season, playing in holding midfield and at left-back.
The 26-year-old has scored two stunning free-kicks this year for Arsenal, in games against Newcastle and Crystal Palace.
