Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang withdraws from Gabon squad
Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has withdrawn from the Gabonese international squad for their game against Mali on Saturday due to injury, and this has resulted in him falling out with the Federation of Gabonese Football (Fegafoot).
As per a report Goal, Aubameyang is upset that Fegafoot reported that he had withdrawn from the squad for other reasons when he had specifically told them he was injured.
Aubameyang used social media to explain to journalist Freddhy Koula that his doctor had been in touch with Gabon to explain that he is injured and as such, unable to join his international teammates.
However, Fegafoot did not explain that the striker is injured and made it look like he’d simply walked away from the squad.
The AFCON qualifying game against Mali is a big one for Gabon as both sides and Burundi are battling for the top two spots in Group C.
However, if Gabon are to be successful in the home game, they’ll need to win without the help of their talismanic forward.
