Unai Emery told Arsenal to take more risks in Wolves draw

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed what he told his players at half-time during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The Gunners could only take home a share of the spoils at the Emirates, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s late equaliser earning the Gunners a point.

Arsenal’s performance was improved after the break as they kept their unbeaten run going, having not lost since August.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Emery said adopting a more risky approach was the key in the second-half, as his players adhered to his half-time team talk:

We spoke about how it was difficult to break their lines defensively and their transition was very good.

We didn’t want the second goal but our idea changed a little because we needed to take more risks.

We needed good balance in the transition.

The team played with character, we had chances to draw level before and also for continuing to look to win the match.

The draw was Arsenal’s third in a row in all competitions, seeing them lose ground on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

It leaves them eight points behind the champions in fifth place, and three points adrift of fourth-place rivals Tottenham.

The international break is now upon us, but Emery’s men return to action on November 25th, making the trip to Bournemouth.
