Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Danny Welbeck has undergone surgery after he suffered a broken ankle.
As quoted by the Mirror, Gunners boss Emery spoke to the media following his side’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers and alluded to the extent of Welbeck’s injury.
The England international was forced off on a stretcher on Thursday night as Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw against Sporting CP in the Europa League.
This prompted fears that Welbeck had sustained significant damage to his ankle. These concerns have been proven correct in recent times, with Emery confirming that the former Manchester United star has suffered a break.

Delivering the news on Welbeck’s current condition and confirming that the player has undergone surgery, Arsenal manager Emery said:
He had an operation on Friday. It’s a big injury but the outcome (on whether he can return this season) the doctor can answer that better than me.
Welbeck sees his contract in North London come to its expiration date at the end of the season, leaving Arsenal with a decision to make over his future at the club.
Irrespective of his contractual situation at the Emirates, though, it seems certain that Welbeck will face several months on the sidelines as he begins his rehabilitation.
