Arsenal missed a chance to go one point off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur as they narrowly held Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw.
Ivan Cavaleiro’s close-range strike in the 13th minute seemed destined to be enough to get the three points for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, however, a Henrikh Mkhitaryan cross went straight pass Rui Patricio in the 86th minute to break Wolves’ hearts.
The visitors pounced on some erroneous judgement by Granit Xhaka as Cavaleiro and Raul Jimenez raced clear before the winger fired home.
Lucas Torreira and Hector Bellerin both went close to levelling proceedings for the home team, but it was not to be. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang hit the bar before Mkhitaryan’s cross went straight past the Wolves keeper to make it 1-1.
This result keeps Arsenal in fifth position, now three points behind their North London rivals Tottenham and eight points behind leaders Manchester City.
