# Emery believes Welbeck injury is serious

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed that he thinks Danny Welbeck’s injury is serious.

Welbeck was stretchered off in the first-half of Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Thursday.

The forward landed awkwardly on his ankle and there has been speculation that he has suffered a broken ankle.

Welbeck has been in fine form for Arsenal this season, scoring five goals in seven starts across all competitions.

He now looks set for a lengthy time on the treatment table, with a suspected broken ankle likely to rule him out for a number of months.

Arsenal are well stocked in the forward department, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette – with youngster Eddie Nketiah also waiting in the wings.

[Speaking to The Mirror,](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/unai-emery-provides-danny-welbeck-13560534)Emery said this:

> It’s the worst news tonight, this injury. It’s clear that we are with him in these minutes.

> When you are playing football, when you are playing in competitive matches, it can happen. You don’t want it to happen but this is our profession.

> Now he is at the hospital. The news is that we are going to wait – but we think it’s a serious injury.
