Welbeck stretchered off in Sporting clash

Arsenal have been left to sweat over the condition of Danny Welbeck after the striker was stretchered off in their clash with Sporting CP.

Welbeck was handed a rare chance to impress by Unai Emery as the Gunners looked to continue their strong run of form in the Europa League group stages on Thursday night.

However, after a spell of on-field treatment in the opening exchanges of the match, Welbeck was forced off in the 29th minute with what appeared to be a serious-looking injury.

Welbeck was stretchered off the Emirates pitch with an oxygen mask utilised, with the forward understood to have sustained a serious injury when challenging for a header.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replaced the England international, whose current condition is not yet known following the injury.
