Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has laughed off comparisons to former club legend Patrick Vieira.
Many Arsenal fans have compared the two after the Uruguayan’s impressive start to the season.
Torreira’s defensive steel and tenacious style of play has seen him likened to the former midfield stalwart.
When quizzed on the claims, Torreira told Sky Sports News that there is one major difference between the two players, and it has nothing to do with their style of play on the pitch.
If the fans are comparing me and my game to Patrick Vieira, that’s amazing. It makes me very proud but I need to grow a bit before I can be as tall as him!
But he’s an amazing player, I remember getting up in the mornings in Uruguay to watch him. I feel very happy and am looking to help the team.
After a slow start to the season, Torreira has now cemented himself as a key figure in Unai Emery’s side.
The new Gunners manager was keen to not rush the player into the side and it took the former Sampdoria man a number of games to oust Matteo Guendouzi in midfield.
However, Arsenal now look all the better for it, with Torreira providing the defensive solidity that they have missed for many years.
