Emery impressed with Xhaka’s commitment against Liverpool

Arsenal manager Unai Emery was hugely impressed with Granit Xhaka’s commitment against Liverpool in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners fought back from a goal down to leave with one point in a pulsating affair in north London.

Emery’s side had enough chances to emerge with all three points but the manager is pleased with the resilience and fighting spirit shown by his squad, especially Xhaka.

As reported on the Evening Standard, the Swiss international made an incredible last-ditch sliding tackle to prevent Mohamed Salah from having a goal scoring opportunity and when talking about the tackle, Emery said:

When you score it’s the best and most important moment in the game – but I also enjoy the small details, individual actions defensively, and offensively,

I want, with each player to continue and hope we can do better. With Xhaka I am happy, because first he’s a very good player, and he has a very good commitment for us. He wants to improve, and I think he can improve. We want to continue with him to give him the time to improve.

Xhaka has had to deputise in left-back in recent matches as Arsenal suffer some bad luck in terms of injuries but he was back in midfield alongside Lucas Torreira in a good performance against Liverpool.
