# West Ham closing in on deal for Arsenal target Almiron

West Ham will fend off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to complete a deal for Miguel Almiron, according to claims from Paraguayan news outlet Ultima Hora, as translated by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/south-america-west-ham-beat-arsenal-tottenham-mls-star-set-pay-25m/).

It’s reported that Atlanta have already made contingency plans as they look ahead to Almiron’s proposed departure, with Gonzalo ‘Pity’ Martinez likely to join from River Plate.

Almiron is a key man for Atlanta and is widely regarded as one of MLS’ most gifted players.

His form has prompted plenty of interest from Premier League clubs in recent times, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both [linked](https://readarsenal.com/2018/10/26/spurs-in-front-of-arsenal-in-the-race-to-sign-miguel-almiron/) with respective swoops.

However, claims from Almiron’s native Paraguay have indicated that a January deal between West Ham and Atlanta is in place, with the midfielder poised to sign for £25.7 million.

Arsenal aren’t expected to oversee a busy January transfer window but Almiron had been touted as a key target for Unai Emery. It seems the Gunners will now have to up their effort to pip West Ham to the signing of the Atlanta star.
