Arsenal are leading their Premier League rivals in the race to sign David Bates from Hamburg, according to the Daily Mirror, as cited by the Daily Record.
The Gunners are said to be at the front of a queue of top-flight English clubs in their pursuit of Bates, who has been in impressive form in the early stages of the 2. Bundesliga season.
After talks over a new deal at Rangers reached an impasse, Bates opted to depart Ibrox to complete a free transfer to Hamburg in the summer following their relegation from the Bundesliga.

His influence at the German outfit has been clear to see, though. In eight league appearances for his side, he has helped the team keep a total of six clean sheets.
This level of performance from Bates appears to have piqued the interest of other Premier League outfits.
Everton are understood to be similarly keen on recruiting the Scotland Under-21 star, whilst Southampton, Watford and Leicester City have also reportedly sent scouts to observe his performances.
