Sokratis Papastathopoulos picks up injury on international duty

Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos was taken off at half-time during Greece’s UEFA Nations League game against Finland on Monday evening after suffering an ankle sprain, according to a report from Greek outlet Gazzetta, as translated by Sport Witness.

At the time of writing, there is no word on how serious the injury to the defender is, but the Gunners face five games in less than two weeks starting with their game against Leicester City on Monday night, so they’ll be hoping the issue isn’t a major one.

Laurent Koscielny and Konstantinos Mavropanos are still unfit for selection, so Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding could be asked to play a lot of football over the next few weeks if the Greek star misses a considerable amount of time.

The 30-year-old will return to London to have the injury assessed by Arsenal’s medical team and both he and his manager Unai Emery will be hopeful that the issue isn’t too serious.
