Real Madrid and Lyon have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign Hector Herrera next summer.
The Mexican international sees his contract at FC Porto expire at the end of the season, meaning that he will be available to depart to potential suitors on a free transfer.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a swoop for the experienced midfielder in recent times but according to claims from O Jogo, as cited by Calciomercato, they will face stiff competition.
Real Madrid are reported to have expressed an interest in a deal for Herrera as they look to add further experience and quality to their pool of midfield options.

Lyon, meanwhile, have also been named as potential suitors for Herrera, who remains the assigned club captain of Porto despite the scrutiny that surrounds his future.
Arsenal are likely to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows, with Aaron Ramsey’s contract set to run down at the end of the ongoing campaign.
However, if the Gunners are to complete a deal for Herrera, it seems they’ll be faced with stiff competition from elsewhere.
