# Lucas Torreira has ‘transformed’ Arsenal says ex-Gunner

Lucas Torreira is the player that has ‘transformed’ Arsenal under Unai Emery, according to former Gunners midfielder Adrian Clarke.

Speaking on the [official Premier League website](https://www.premierleague.com/news/878408?sf200105887=1), Clarke explains that the impact the summer signing has had on the team has changed the dynamics of the squad completely.

> He has transformed the team’s tactical approach, making Arsenal harder to break down and giving them a more solid central platform that allows Granit Xhaka and others to focus on creativity.

Torreira joined the club during the summer transfer window from Sampdoria but needed time to settle into life at Arsenal.

Despite joining for big money, he was initially kept out of the side by fellow new signing Matteo Guendouzi.

The defensive midfielder position has been something of a problem area for the Gunners in recent years.

Dating back to Arsene Wenger’s last few seasons in charge of the club, it has been a position they have struggled to fill.

Torreira impressed at Sampdoria in Serie A last season and attracted a lot of interest during the summer, but it was Arsenal who won the race to sign him and they are now reaping the rewards.
