Arsene Wenger believes Aaron Ramsey could still sign new deal

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that Aaron Ramsey could still yet sign a new contract with the Gunners, the Evening Standard report.

Wenger, who left the club in the summer, originally brought Ramsey to London from Cardiff City back in 2008, and the Welsh midfielder has since gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Gunners.

The 27-year-old’s contract is up in the summer and talks over a new deal are seemingly at a stand still, despite featuring heavily under new boss Unai Emery.

However, former boss Wenger, who Ramsey was a key player for, believes that the box-to-box midfielder could well sign a new deal before the summer.

When asked by reporters about Ramsey’s current situation, Wenger admitted he tried to tie the Welshman down to a new deal before he left.

We tried that before and it still can happen.

I don’t really know what is happening at Arsenal. Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position.

But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract. These things were once my responsibility but not anymore. I am happy about that.

Ramsey, who has scored two FA Cup final winning goals for Arsenal during his 10-year stay, is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.
