# Arsenal reportedly ready to firm up their interest in Herrera

Arsenal are reportedly ready to firm up their interest in FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera ahead of a summer move.

The Mexican international is out of contract with the Portuguese giants at the end of the season, meaning that interested parties will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with the player ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

The Gunners will undoubtedly face competition in their pursuit of the 28-year-old, however. Serie A giants Inter Milan have been previously [linked](https://readarsenal.com/2018/09/29/inter-milan-join-arsenal-in-the-race-to-sign-herrera/), whilst Crystal Palace and Watford are named as potential destinations in Gazzetta’s recent report.

Herrera, who remains the captain of Porto, has been a key player for his side over the years but now looks set to seek pastures new.

Arsenal may well be on the lookout for a new central midfield player to arrive ahead of next season, with Aaron Ramsey’s contract at the club likely to run down.
