Arsenal eye Banega as Ramsey replacement

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is targeting Sevilla midfielder Éver Banega to replace the outgoing Aaron Ramsey, according to Mirror Sport.

The 30-year old Argentine would represent another divergence from Arsenal’s transfer policy, with Emery considering the 30-year old a ready made replacement for the Gunners’ Wales international.

With Ramsey set to depart the club soon, with his contract up next summer and no chance of a new deal being agreed any time soon, Emery wants a high-energy midfielder who better suits his tactics and style of play to come into his squad.

With the Gunners having signed Sokratis, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the past 12 months, clearly the club’s policy on signing younger players has been moved to the sidelines, with Emery wanting ready made squad additions.

The club are now less concerned about sell-on value, particularly due to the changing face of the transfer market, and are now ready to meet the immediate demands and requirements of their current boss.

Banega would unite with Emery for the second time at the Emirates Stadium, with the Argentina internaitonal having been brought to Sevilla from La Liga rivals Valencia by Emery in 2-14.
