Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham all missed out on the chance to sign Issa Diop this summer, with the French defender joining West Ham.
The Daily Mail has revealed that several clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona, were among those keeping tabs on the former Toulouse man.
Diop joined for £22 million in the summer and has been a revelation at the back for the Hammers, catching the eye of many with some dominant performances.
The young centre-back was especially impressive as he kept Romelu Lukaku quiet in West Ham’s comprehensive 3-1 win against Manchester United on Saturday.

Diop’s display prompted praise from Jose Mourinho, who could well have been managing the defender if United had pursued their apparent interest during the summer.
Congratulations to the scout who found the 21-year-old kid, Diop, a monster who dominated everything in the duels.
Arsenal did strengthen defensively over the summer, bringing in Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund to give Unai Emery move options at the heart of his defence.
