Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not feature for Arsenal in their Europa League fixture against Qarabag on Thursday night.
According to the Independent, the player will not travel with the rest of the squad because of visa issues.
The cites ‘continuing tensions’ between both Armenia and Azerbaijan as one of the reasons why a visa application was denied.
The news comes as a major blow to Arsenal boss Unai Emery, who had been expecting to have the player available.
This is not the first time this has happened for Mkhitaryan. He decided against playing in Azerbaijan while he was at Borussia Dortmund earlier in his career.
Mkhitaryan was one of the star performers for Arsenal during their opening Europa League match against Vorskla last month, in which the Gunners ran out 4-2 winners.
The news could now force Emery into naming a stronger side in the Europa League, meaning he may have to call upon Mesut Ozil to come into the side.
