# Arsenal send scouts to watch German youngster Arne Maier

German youth international Arne Maier has emerged as a transfer target for both Arsenal and Manchester United.

According to a report from [Sport1](https://www.sport1.de/transfermarkt/2016/09/transfers-spielerwechsel-bundesliga-international?id=7d315d9a-bbff-11e8-b08e-b8ca3a67761c), both clubs have had scouts keeping a close eye on the Hertha BSC midfielder recently.

They were reportedly present during a recent Bundesliga clash, as well as in Hertha’s DFB-Pokal game in August.

The youngster, who plays as a defensive midfielder, has emerged as a regular for the Bundesliga side this season, despite his tender age.

His performances in Germany clearly have not gone unnoticed, with rumours of interest from Barcelona already emerging.

Maier broke into the Hertha squad last season but appears to have nailed down a first-team place this season and is now being tipped for big things.

He stands at an impressive 6ft tall and is a German U21 international, having represented his country at various youth levels.

With Arsenal’s new transfer policy, they have become known to scour Europe for the best youngsters and Maier could be the next name on their list.
