Cech calls for patience over Arsenal’s new style
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has responded to criticism directed at his side’s new style of play.
The Gunners captain’s position in the starting line-up has come under some intense scrutiny in recent weeks given his apparent struggles to adapt to Unai Emery’s demands.
New Arsenal boss Emery has placed an emphasis on his goalkeeper playing out from the back, rather than focusing on long passes upfield.
Cech has made some errors during his adaptation period with regards to these new stylistic demands but has insisted that patience is required if results are to be achieved.
As quoted by Metro, the former Chelsea star dismissed claims that he is struggling to adjust to Emery’s style of play.
I had 166 passes in the first four games which is a huge amount and everybody picked up on only two. It’s obviously not a great thing to do when you pass the ball in a dangerous area like I did at Cardiff when I gave it to Harry Arter but it’s part of the game that you can always make a mistake.
There have been calls from large sections of the Arsenal fan-base for Bernd Leno to make his bow for the club.
After signing from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, Leno has not yet featured in a competitive game for his new side, raising questions as to why Cech has been selected by Emery in his opening stages as the Arsenal manager.
Cech, however, appears to feel as though the high level of recent criticism is unwarranted, as he called for patience following Arsenal’s win at Newcastle.
If you look at the evolution of Barcelona and Man City, it didn’t happen overnight. As they got more familiar with that [style], the results came. We’re now in that process of getting to know what advantage it gives us.
