Lucas Torreira injured on international duty

Arsenal have been handed an injury blow ahead of their trip to Newcastle on Saturday after Lucas Torreira was injured on international duty.

The Uruguayan midfielder is yet to start for the Gunners but he’s put in some impressive cameos from the bench and it looked like a matter of time before he was put into the starting line-up by Unai Emery.

However, the 22-year-old was forced off at half-time of Uruguay’s friendly against Mexico and he was spotted sitting with an ice pack on his leg.

It appears that the midfielder will be unavailable for the trip to the North East at the weekend and he’s unlikely to feature in Thursday night’s Europa League home game against Vorskla Poltava either.

The injury will come as a blow to Torreira and to Arsenal as it is likely to set him back a few weeks.

The reason he had not been starting games was due to fitness issues so this setback has come at an unfortunate time for all parties.
