Myron Boadu has been reflecting on his decision to snub interest from Arsenal in favour of remaining at Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar.
The young forward has progressed through the ranks at AZ and has since burst onto the senior scene at just 17-years-old. However, his fate could have been incredibly different had he accepted a proposal from the Gunners in 2016.
It was reported two years ago that Arsenal were closing in on a deal to sign Boadu, who had been highly rated in the Netherlands. However, the attacker opted to stay put at AZ, putting pen to paper on a three-year contract at the club.
Recently speaking to Elf Voetbal, as quoted by Football Oranje, about his decision to reject Arsenal’s advances, Boadu claimed that the prospect of playing football at youth level for the foreseeable future was unappealing.
I will never forget the moment I got on the plane, I thought, ‘this may be an important day in my life.’ If we had said yes, it would have had far-reaching consequences for our family. It was attractive to go, but I also got a very good offer from AZ.
I’m playing in the first team now, I do not know if that would have been the case at Arsenal, where I would play with boys of my own age, which did not appeal to me.
The Netherlands Under-17 international is currently in a rich vein of form at AZ having found the net on three occasions in four Eredivisie appearances so far this season.
