# Arsenal continue to be linked with Gelson Martins move

Atletico Madrid beat Arsenal to the signing of Gelson Martins in the summer transfer window but according to a report from the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/728420/Man-City-transfer-news-Pep-Guardiola-Julian-Weigl-Bernardo-Silva-Gelson-Martins), the Gunners remain interested in signing the player.

The Portugal international sought an exit from Sporting CP at the end of last season and went on to complete a move to Atletico. This transfer came about despite interest from the Premier League, namely from Arsenal.

However, despite Martins having only spent some months at his new club in Spain, it’s claimed by the Star that Arsenal remain at the very front of the queue in the race for the winger’s signature.

Martins has developed a reputation for being one of Europe’s trickiest wingers, impressing out on the right-hand side with some exciting displays for club and country.

This appears to have piqued the interest of Arsenal, who have been perennially linked with a move for Martins.

It’s likely that Atletico will demand a premium price for their new recruit given how recent his arrival is, but Arsenal are still reported to be leading the likes of Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.
