# Filipe Luis asked to leave Atletico Madrid

Arsenal target Filipe Luis has confirmed that he asked to leave Atletico Madrid over the summer.

The Gunners were linked with a move for Luis as Unai Emery looked to bolster his options at left-back.

However, they were unable to secure a deal for the Brazillian fullback and Luis is still an Atletico Madrid player.

Luis has now revealed that he had a meeting with Atletico where he asked to leave the Spanish club.

Arsenal were not the club he was looking to join, though, as PSG came in with an offer.

The French giants were keen to bring him in and Luis was interested in moving to France.

[Speaking to AS,](https://en.as.com/en/2018/09/05/football/1536140438_199906.html?id_externo_rsoc=comp_tw) Luis said this:

> The opportunity came up to go to PSG and I told Atlético. **I asked them to let me leave, the way they did with Gabi recently**. The club didn’t see both situations in the same way, despite the similarities in the time remaining on our contracts.

Luis has made over 300 appearances for Atletico over two spells with the club, with a season at Chelsea in the Premier League between his two stints.
