# Koscielny’s agent confirms he had offers to leave

Laurent Koscielny’s agent has confirmed that the defender had offers to leave the club this summer.

Speaking to [France Football, as cited on Football London](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/latest-arsenal-news-laurent-koscielny-15108662), Stephane Courbis confirms that the player was thinking about leaving the club.

Courbis reveals that there was a point where Koscielny wanted to leave the club, following Arsene Wenger out of the door at The Emirates.

Several clubs were linked with a move for Koscielny over the summer, with Marseille believed to be the most serious contenders.

> He started thinking about a possible departure from Arsenal at the same time as Arsene Wenger. It was the right moment, the final moment to leave with the arrival of the new manager. I had already anticipated this, with two or three offers that were starting to make us think.

> We were open to different options, China as much as France. He could not see himself playing for another English team other than Arsenal. Since the approach from Marseille least season, the notion of returning to Ligue 1 entered his thinking. It was a genuine possibility.

An Achilles injury against Atletico Madrid ended his season early and there were concerns that he had played his last match for the club.

However, Unai Emery appears to be keen on keeping him around as he rebuilds his fitness and works his way back into the squad.

He was named as the first-team captain by Emery, who took the unusual step of naming ‘five captains’, by the French international would be his first.
