Foster feels sorry for Cech after early mistakes

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has said that he feels sorry for Petr Cech amid concerns over his distribution skills.

Arsenal fans, and pundits, have blasted Cech for his mistakes on the ball this season, giving possession away too easily at times.

There are calls for Bernd Leno to come in and take Cech’s place. The German is yet to make his debut for Arsenal after his £16m move from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Watford ‘keeper Ben Foster has sympathised with the position that Cech has been placed in.

Speaking to The Evening Standard, he said this:

You’re not just expected to make saves nowadays. You’ve got to be that Ederson-type of goalie, where you’re super comfortable with a ball at your feet.

I do [feel sorry for Cech] because it’s not his stye of football. He’s being asked to play a completely different style of football, so it’s going to take a while to get used to.

Arsenal face Newcastle at The Emirates after the international break and Unai Emery has a decision to make over whether he goes with Cech or Leno.
