Danny Welbeck named in England squad

Danny Welbeck has been named in the England squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Switzerland and Spain.

The striker has retained his place in the squad from the World Cup, where he played a minimal part in England’s run that ended at the hands of Croatia in the semi-finals.

Something of an England stalwart, Welbeck has received 40 caps for his country, scoring 16 goals.

The 27-year-old forward offers great versatility across the attacking line, and manager Gareth Southgate has sen fit to include him in his immediate plans.

Welbeck scored Arsenal’s third goal in the Gunners’ 3-1 victory against West Ham on Saturday.

A familiar with the England setup, Welbeck made 35 appearances for the national side at various age-groups, including 14 appearances for the U21s.

Welbeck’s last England goal came in the World Cup warm-up match against Costa Rica, where he netted the second in a 2-0 victory for the Three Lions.
