Lucas Torreira has been explaining how he is settling in at Arsenal following a summer switch from Sampdoria.
Speaking to the club’s official website after helping the Gunners secure their first win of the season against West Ham, Torreira was quizzed on his first couple of months as an Arsenal player.
I’m really happy. It’s all very new for me because I’ve come from a different type of league. The climate is different here and the way of life too, but I’m settling in nicely and training hard – the sessions are different too. The confidence will grow with every game, so that’s great.
Torreira was courted by the Gunners throughout the summer transfer window but a deal was eventually agreed, with the Uruguayan international linking up with the Arsenal squad after an extended pre-season break.
The enigmatic midfielder represented his native Uruguay at this summer’s World Cup and stood out as he turned in some impressive displays.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery will hope that Torreira’s slow introduction to life at the Emirates will help him adapt in a swift fashion, with the player likely to establish himself as a key man for the club.
Torreira, speaking to Arsenal’s website, also alluded to how he has found life under Emery so far.
We’re getting to grips with what the coach wants from us and I think we’ve played some good football in the past few games. We got our first win today which was massive for us, but there’s a long road ahead and a lot of games to play, so the best thing for us now is to rest up, focus on our next game and concentrate on our preparation, which is vital.
