Emery’s Ozil decision blasted by Bayern chief

Unai Emery’s decision to name Mesut Ozil as one of the five captains has been blasted by Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness.

As reported by the Metro, Hoeness has described the move to make Ozil one of Emery’s captains as a ‘miracle’.

The new Arsenal boss took the bold decision to name five Arsenal captains for the season.

Ozil joined Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka on the list of other potential candidates to wear the armband whilst the club’s main captain, Laurent Koscielny, is sidelined.

I’ve been watching the player for a long time and he’s a well-marketed product whose image is a lot better than he is, which is the only big blame for me. Had [Germany coach Joachim] Low gone to Arsenal more often in London and looked at him properly, he probably would not have taken him for sporting reasons. ‘It is a miracle that he is now captain at Arsenal.

However, the German has struggled in the early stages of the new season, making little to no impact in Emery’s first two games in charge of the Gunners.

The German midfielder, who has endured a turbulent summer after retiring from international football, was subbed off against Chelsea with just over 20 minutes left to play.
