Arsenal won’t be held to ransom over new contract for Ramsey

Arsenal are confident over tying down Aaron Ramsey to a new contract and are insistent that they will not be held to ransom, the Evening Standard reports.

Ramsey’s current deal at the Emirates sees him earn £110,000 a week, and the Welsh international is keen to have his wages doubled.

However, Arsenal have warned the 27-year-old that the club will not be held to ransom and that Mesut Ozil’s staggering £350,000 a week contract should not be viewed as a benchmark for other players.

Arsenal justify Ozil’s wages by saying that the German has worldwide commercial value which brings a significant amount of money into the club.

Meanwhile, Ramsey’s agency too to Twitter last week to reject rumours that Ramsey wants his wages to be on a par with Ozil’s.

Unai Emery is currently under pressure to reduce Arsenal’s record high wage bill that is running at more than £200million a year.

Ramsey signed for Arsenal from Cardiff City 10 years ago and has consistently been a key player for the Gunners
